COMM.UNIONS – New and old communication strategies of trade unions (Raquel Rego)
I propose developing a research program that stems from my past work, in particular from a project conducted on the way trade unions make recourse to the Internet. In the research program, I assume that trade unions are representative worker organizations and therefore a correspondingly important regulatory institution within the framework of democratic regimes. I also assume that unions themselves need to be democratic in order to be able to successfully play their role. Furthermore, I now seek to demonstrate how the communication strategy holds a fundamental responsibility in promoting internal democracy with accessing information and fostering participation as its main dimensions.
